PSHE

PSHE and Citizenship is integral to the personal, social, health and safe well being of students and an essential part of every student's curriculum. The Every Child Matters agenda is central to the objectives and delivery of our programme which promotes education of the ‘whole child'. We aim to deliver a fun, enjoyable programme that enhances student's self esteem and autonomy and to prepare them with the necessary communicative and social skills needed in life to make well informed, safe and healthy choices.

Who’s Who?

Mrs Rai – Subject Leader

The Teaching team for PSHE is a varied combination of teaching staff across different departments.

What the Students say….

“The speaker was really interesting – helped me think about how to act in an interview”  Year 10 student

“I enjoy PSHEe lessons because you get to talk about real life things” Year 7 student

“‘I like the lessons where we get to watch video clips and discuss how we would react to situations”’ Year 9 student

The Curriculum

Key Stage 3
Students complete PSHEe and Citizenship modules in line with the Government requirements. We cover issues like safety, SRE, Drugs education, Human Rights, Bullying, The role of the media, careers and enterprise.

Key Stage 4

Year 10 students complete the AQA Preparation for Working Life qualification. Year 11 students work through modules to broaden their understanding of life issues; careers options, EU, Human Rights, SRE and Drugs education.

PSHEe and Citizenship is taught as a spiral subject so content is age specific but topics are re-visited throughout the years.

Assessment takes place at the end of every unit with the opportunity to self assess and teacher assess the learning. In Year 10 students complete coursework by Christmas and sit an exam in May.

We endeavour to organise specialist speakers to come in and supplement the lesson content. We have had people come in from the Army, Connexions, Road Safety Team and the Chantelle Bleu charity.
