ICT
In the ICT department we aim to enable students to explore a broad range of skills using a wide variety of software packages. We do this by providing engaging and relevant projects which students are guided through, giving them opportunities to make creative decisions, carry out independent research and produce near-professional outcomes. The topics covered are in line with national curriculum guidelines, and are constantly updated to keep them up to date with the fast changing technology environment in which we all live. We run a range of after school clubs for different year groups.

The Curriculum
Key Stage 3
In line with National Curriculum content, a wide variety of software is used to work through all the required topics, in preparation for the qualifications we offer in Key Stage 4. Projects include interactive multimedia presentations, desk top publishing, web design, spreadsheet modelling, databases, computer graphics and animation.
Students in year 9 begin their OCR Nationals Level 2 qualification, which is then carried over into KS4. They start with the half unit – creating animations for WWW.
Key Stage 4
All students study OCR National Level 2 ICT, at either the First Award level (1 GCSE A-C equivalent) or Award level (2 GCSE A-C equivalents.) These are practical, work-related courses. Students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. In order to achieve this qualification, candidates must achieve:
- The mandatory unit 1: ICT skills for business
- One unit from the following options: Webpage Creation, Digital Imaging, Multimedia, Desktop Publishing, (or three units if studying the Award.)
- One half unit: Creating Animation for WWW. This is completed in Year 9 by all students
Key Stage 5
The OCR Nationals in ICT Level 3 offer students a more in-depth look at ICT in the modern workplace, and give an insight into its role in specialist careers. As an alternative to Applied GCE, or similar exam-based courses, these qualifications provide ongoing learning and assessment of the practical skills and knowledge required to succeed in ICT-related careers. This is a 2 year course and covers the following units:
Unit 1 Digital Business Communication
Unit 2 Collaborative Working
Unit 3 Problem Solving
Unit 4 Creating a Digital Showcase
Unit 11 Digital Video
Unit 20 Web Authoring
